March 15, 2020 – SOMA SCATTERED GATHERING

SOMA TACOMA

RECOMMENDATIONS FOR THE SCATTERED GATHERING:

1. Break up your MC into smaller groups. Think before inviting someone in your home. Then think again.

We do not recommend missional communities gathering as a whole during this time. If we are to follow the example of learnings from Italy and other countries that have been in this longer, we need to follow strict health guidelines. If you can follow the *Health Guidelines below, then consider inviting a small group of healthy people into your home, especially those who are single or alone. As we continue communicating with church leaders around the world, particularly those in Italy and other parts of Europe, we feel compelled to strongly suggest that you not invite groups of kids into your homes at this time, as children significantly raise the risk of transmission in any setting.

*Health Guidelines: Groups of less than ten people can meet together with minimal risk, provided that:

1) No one present is sick or has any reason to think they have been exposed to SARS-CoV-2

2) Shared surfaces are disinfected before and after the meeting

3) Everyone washes their hands thoroughly (for more than 20 seconds) upon arrival and upon returning to their home

4) Food and drink are served individually

5) As much distance as possible is maintained between members of different households and their belongings

2. Separate your kid liturgy and your adult liturgy.

Give yourself freedom to find the best time to lead your kids through their liturgy. Make it a priority for this to happen weekly. While we believe there is benefit for all adults to join the live streams at 10:30am on Sundays, if this doesn’t work for you, those video streams will be captured and you can host your household gathering at a later time.

3. Stay at home if you are high risk.

It is strongly recommended that people at higher risk of severe illness should stay home. The CDC has found that “older adults and people who have severe chronic medical conditions like heart, lung or kidney disease seem to be at higher risk for more serious COVID-19 illness.” This also includes individuals with weakened immune systems and those who are pregnant. Read more here.

4. Stay home if you’re sick.

If you or a family member has a cough, fever, or any cold or flu-like symptoms, refrain from participating in any activities until you are symptom-free for 24 hours. If any of you become sick with the Coronavirus, please notify us immediately.

OUR HOPES:

1. That we can be a wise, informed, non-anxious presence in Tacoma.

2. That our households would become the place of discipleship they were always meant to be.

3. That many followers of Jesus would be equipped to lead in ways they wouldn’t under different circumstances.

4. That many in our cities, especially the most vulnerable, would experience the love of Jesus and hear the good news of Jesus through our church, in many creative (and safe) ways.

5. That we might see renewal and revival in our hearts, city, and nation in the time of Covid-19.
